Hair transplant in Istanbul: what it costs and how to get it right

Real hair transplant prices in Turkey, how FUE differs from DHI, who actually performs the procedure, and the red flags to watch out for.

Istanbul is the world capital of hair transplants: hundreds of clinics, prices several times lower than in Europe and the US, and packages with hotel and transfers. But quality varies enormously. The key question isn’t the price but who exactly will perform the procedure.

How much it costs

FUE vs DHI: the difference

FUE: grafts are extracted one by one, then channels are opened in the scalp and the grafts are placed. Suited to large sessions. DHI: grafts are implanted with a Choi implanter pen without pre-made channels, for more precise angle and density, but it takes longer and costs more. The method should be chosen by the surgeon after an examination, not by the sales team.

Red flags

  • A price far below the market and “unlimited grafts”.
  • They can’t name the surgeon or show their work.
  • Several dozen patients per doctor on the day of surgery.
  • The clinic has no license from the Turkish Ministry of Health.
  • They promise results without a consultation and photos of your donor area.
  • Pressure tactics: “the discount is only valid today”.

How the trip works

  • Day 1: arrival, transfer, consultation, blood tests, marking the hairline.
  • Day 2: the procedure, 6–8 hours under local anesthesia.
  • Day 3: check-up and first wash, aftercare instructions, flight home.
  • For the first 10–14 days: scabs, no sports and no pool. The final result shows after 12 months.
Aftercare matters more than you might think: sleep with your head raised for the first few nights, no alcohol or exercise for two weeks, no sun or pool for a month. The ERKAK concierge stays in touch after you get home, too.

Frequently asked questions

Does it hurt?

The procedure is done under local anesthesia: the injections at the start are unpleasant, and after that it’s bearable. Swelling and discomfort are possible for the first two or three nights.

How many grafts do I need?

It depends on the stage of hair loss and your donor area: usually 1,500 to 4,000 grafts. The surgeon determines the exact number after an examination.

Will I need a second procedure?

Sometimes, if hair loss continues. That’s why doctors often prescribe maintenance therapy to preserve your own hair.

Prices and rules are based on public sources as of the update date and may change. This is not medical or legal advice.
